WHAT IS SOUTH CENTRAL LIKE TODAY ?
The good things about South Central are , It has a good education . Also we have police around to protect us from the crimes that happen in South Central . What can improve is , helping the people who are on the street with nowhere to go . The police can improve on finding murderers . I don’t really like going to school in South Central because its a bad area . Overall I like living in South Central a little bit because I know a lot of people .The three most important events that have the greatest impact on making South Central , LA what it is today are Watts Riots , LA Riots , and Gang history .
The Watts Riots started because the police beat Marquette Frye , and said he was drunk driving when he wasn’t . The rioters first meeting was at Athens park . They burnt 103rd st to the ground , its nickname was “charcoal alley” . Thirty four people died , 118people suffered, there was over $40 million in damages . After the riots many whit people left South Central , because they were scared , this was called “The White Fight” . people think that they rioted because of bad schools , unemployment , and prior instances of police brutality . This is important to me because we need to know how this madness started . I know a lot about the Watts Riots .
I know that the police beat Rodney King half to death for supposedly speeding . Soon Ja Do kilt Latosha Harlins over some orange juice , and didn’t go to jail , only had to pay a $500 dollar fine . The officers that beat him were served not guilty a year later , and this is what led the riots . Damian Williams pulled a truck driver out of his truck Driver named Denny , and was severely beating and got hit over the head with a brick . Damian celebrated , but he served time in jail . In the end 53 people died , over $1 billion in damages were done . People rioted because of built up anger and frustration . This is important because they were races they make Damian go to jail , but not Soon and the police officers .
I know that the white people started the gangs , and Latinos and Blacks were just in response to them . The biggest white gang was the KKK and the spook hunters . Spook hunters was the term used for black people After the white flight there were mostly black and Latinos , this led them to fight each other . Many Gang members joined organizations like Black Panthers and Brown Berets . These groups wanted to have better education , to control businesses , no unemployment , and to not be controlled by white people . Bunchy carter was originally from the street gang Slausons but joined Black Panthers after he got out of jail and became a Muslim . Bunchy was the leader of Black Panthers . The government worked to break up the organizations by jailing them . There was also a street gang called 18st that formed after black panthers were destroyed . This is important because there was people like Black Panthers and Brown Berets who tried to stop the gangs . I like this because i know that black people didn’t start the gangs .
The Three events that i choose were the most important because they had the biggest impact on South Central . In the future I think South Central will change a little bit . I think the education will get better . Also I think they will give jobs . The gangs , I think they will get worst . Overall South Central is getting better then what it was before , but I don’t know if it will get worst in the future . SOUTH CENTRAL !
